Welcome to Sandra Brug’s Blog!
I am a poet and children’s author, as well as a children’s librarian at the Bozeman Public Library in Bozeman, Montana. www.bozemanlibrary.org
As a children’s author, I focus on picture books and poetry for the juvenile market. Why these genres? I have had a lifelong love affair with picture books and when I write, it is a poet’s voice that appears on the page. Plus, I have always worked with and for children—the pleasure never diminishes.
I grew up in Massachusetts and received my BS in Early Childhood Education from the University of Massachusetts. I hold a masters degree in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College in California. I spent 20 years teaching, directing and being an advocate for Early Childhood Education before moving to the library.
My first picture book, Soccer Beat, was published by Margaret K. McElderry Books (Emma Dryden as my editor). Ten of my poems appear in I Can Read Books and children’s anthologies by Lee Bennett Hopkins, including Incredible Inventions (Greenwillow 2009) and other collections by HarperCollins, Orchard Books, Abrams Books for Young Readers and Golden Books. My stories and poems have also appeared in Spider and Highlights for Children magazines. I am a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
